Spent Grain Recipes

Cookies:

1/3 cup peanut butter
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups spent grains
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped nuts

First, mix the peanut butter, butter, sugar, milk, and vanilla. Then, mix in the flour, baking soda, and salt. After that, mix in the nuts and chocolate chips.

These (about 2 dozen) should be baked on a greased cookie sheet at 425°F for 8-10 minutes until the tops are getting golden, but before the bottoms burn. Let them sit on the pan for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool.

Dog Biscuits:

4 cups spent grains
4 cups flour
1 cup peanut butter
1 egg

Mix all of the ingredients together and roll onto a cookie sheet. Cut them almost all the way through into the shapes you want (or use a cookie cutter). They won't spread out, and the thickness should stay relatively the same.

Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes and let them cool enough so that they can be broken. Place them back in the oven to dry for 8-10 hours at 225°F. Make sure they completely dry out so that they don't grow any mold. They should store well in an airtight container.

DO NOT USE GRAINS THAT HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO HOPS! HOPS ARE TOXIC TO DOGS!
